The Hugh C. Becker
Grant Committee of the Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies, Inc. announced the
recipients of grants totaling $93,400 for 2012. Listed below, in chronological
order, is the impressive list of grants which will benefit muskie fisheries,
research and youth thanks to the foresight and generosity of Hugh Becker.
Minnesota DNR, Bemidji Field Office, muskie trap-netting equipment: $4,000
Chapter 5, Pomme de Terre,
matching funds to replace damaged netting over a muskie-raising pool at Lost Valley
Hatchery in Missouri: $700
Chapter 21, North Metro, funds to assist 4 Minnesota DNR Fisheries Offices (West Metro, Little Falls, East Metro, Montrose) with muskie management and research equipment: $8,800
Chapter 1, Twin Cities, for
promoting, organizing, and operating the Minnesota High School muskie-fishing
championship program: $1,500
Chapter 5, Pomme de Terre, for educational shelters at the August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area near St. Charles, MO: $3,100
Chapter 6, First Wisconsin,
youth outings/fishing equipment: $700
University of Illinois/Illinois Natural History Survey, continuing support of the Dam Escapement Study (Dr. David Wahl and graduate student Max Wolter): $2,500
Pennsylvania Fish Commission,
assist with equipment rental and purchase for muskie tagging program at the
Linesville State Fish Hatchery: $8,100
Chapter 24, Brainerd Lakes, matching funds to continue partial funding of the Pelagic Habitat Preference of Muskellunge and Cisco Study, Elk Lake (Itasca State Park): $6,800
Chapter 37, St. Cloud Chapter,
youth programs, including Lake George Outing (with Big Brothers & Big
Sisters) and Waite Park Family Fun Festival: $2,000
Chapter 20, Between the Lakes, matching funds for Turning Leaf Youth Program: $4,000
Long Lake Conservation Center,
Palisade, MN, assist with purchase of equipment for the new youth fishing camp:

Chapter 29, Upper Great Plains, support construction of electric fish barrier on West Okoboji Lake, Iowa (with consideration of IL Dam Escapement Study results): $5,700
Chapter 16, Three Rivers, Minnow/Feed Project, Linesville State Fish Hatchery, PA: $2,000
Leech Lake Area Watershed Foundation, land acquisition for the protection of habitat and muskie spawning grounds in Miller Bay of Leech Lake: $10,000
Chapter 39, Fox River Valley,
stocking of muskie fingerlings, Fox Chain of Lakes (and possibly Loon Lake),
Illinois: $3,000
Chapter 39, Fox River Valley, youth activities through the Illinois Urban Fishing Program: $1,500
Muskies Canada, Inc., Lake Simco
Muskellunge Restoration Project: $8,000
Chapter 13, Hayward Lakes, continued support of stocking program: $4,000
2016 Muskie Symposium, to
commemorate the fifty-year (50) anniversary of Muskies, Inc., the Hugh C.
Becker Foundation is interested in sponsoring the proposed Muskie Symposium to
be held in the Twin Cities area. Funds will go to an escrow account with
additional deposits annually to defray anticipated expenses. Other
contingencies and consideration will be made public as time approaches: $15,000
